Welcome to the Solar Time Machine!

If you need any help, just click the question mark button near the top of the page, to the right of the title.

NOTE: If the time-lapse is jerky or seems frozen, please be patient and try playing it again when it finishes. Depending on caching and connection speed, it can take a few seconds for all the imagery to preload.

How-To:

Use the datepicker to select a start date to view. By default, the current UTC date will be selected.
Next, select a light wavelength view. By default, 304 Angstroms will be selected.
Finally, choose how many days the timelapse should be, up to a maximum of 7 days. By default, a single day will be selected.
When ready, press the Play button. The controls will be disabled as the timelapse is playing, but the Measurements panel can be freely scrolled through at any time.

Note: If the time-lapse is jerky or seems frozen, please be patient and try playing it again when it finishes. Depending on caching and connection speed, it can take a few seconds for all the imagery to preload.

Controls:

From left to right, top to bottom

Date Selector: Sets the start date of the timelapse. While playing, indicates the datestamp of the current view.
Time Indicator: Shows the timestamp of the current view.
Wavelength Selector: Sets the filter wavelength of the images for the timelapse.
Day Count: Sets the number of days the timelapse should cover, up to a maximum of one week.
Play Button (): Begins the timelapse, and locks the controls until it finishes.
Previous Day (): Jumps the date selector back by one day.
Previous View (): Jumps to the previous timestamp view.
Next View (): Jumps to the next timestamp view.
Next Day (): Jumps the date selector forward by one day.
Show Bookmarks (): Displays a list of bookmarks which will load a particularly interesting view.
Show Charts (): Displays charts showing a selection of indices over time. Clicking one of the points will jump to that date.
Random Date (): Selects a random date and wavelength view.
Share Perma-Link (): Copies a link to the clipboard which will lead straight to the date and wavelength view currently selected.
Timeline: Indicates where within the current day the current view is. Can also be dragged along to scan through the day.
